Celebrating the Chipmunk

Wednesday 26 March at 13.00

Navy Wings is delighted to announce that we will be holding a special Chipmunk event in the Heritage Hangar to celebrate the impact made by this remarkable aircraft.

Join us in the Navy Wings Heritage Hangar on Wednesday 26 March to celebrate the legendary de Havilland Chipmunk and find out why this much loved and popular training aircraft has captured the hearts of so many!

Used extensively by the UK Armed Forces for over 50 years, the Chipmunk played an important role in training a huge number of Fleet Air Arm pilots. Flying solo for the first time is a thrilling and transformative experience and for many pilots learning to fly in the Chipmunk led to a life long passion for aviation.

Share the memories of naval aviators who trained on the Chipmunk and hear why many pilots still feel a deep connection with the ‘Chippy’ many years later.

The Chipmunk gave outstanding service and although the aircraft was finally retired from the Royal Navy in 1993, Navy Wings still flies two Chipmunks providing tail dragger experience and all year round continuation training for our pilots. It’s an incredible achievement for a little aircraft that first took to the skies nearly 80 years ago!

If you trained on the Chipmunk, bring your Log Book and see if you have flown in our aircraft!

The afternoon includes lunch and a talk by guest speaker, former Royal Navy Display pilot and Chipmunk owner, John Beattie, as well as plenty of up-close access to the aircraft and time to mix and mingle with our pilots and engineers and friends in the Chipmunk community.

Tickets for this fundraising event are £20 with a discount available for Navy Wings Supporters. Please note that our booking system, Eventbrite, will add a small booking fee on all tickets.
